for colored girls

A costume design series inspired by For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange. Using collage and assemblage techniques I wanted to convey the exploration of joy, innocence, youth, growth and resilience. By using paper, fabric scraps to simulate movement and body I created these four costumes for the four Ladies; in blue, green, yellow, and red.
