A costume design project inspired by For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange. Using collage and assemblage techniques, I created costumes for four Ladies; blue, green, yellow, and red.
Each represents distinct emotional states including melancholy and trauma, resilience and sensuality, youth and agency, and power, desire, and rage.
The designs were constructed using found fabrics from my home as an homage, emphasizing texture, memory, and care.
This project explores costume as visual storytelling while honoring the resilience, elegance, and beauty of Black women.
